As I sit here on my bed close to my open window all I can do is ponder what this weekend meant to me. It started out as weekend as any other and then Steph decided to come down for a visit. Not only did Steph come down, but it was also Lil Wayne's birthday and Sunday marked the second year in a row I would try to go to College Fest in Boston. I was I chillin on the porch with my girls I discovered that this weeked was full of said Fests. I proclaimed this weekend as Festivus. As soon as I said it I made a sick connection between this very weekend and my father's favorite show Seinfeld.
Eager to know more about Festivus and in some strange way get closer to my father I decided to wiki this entire Festivus tradition. The original festivus was established to mark the date of the writer of Seinfeld's parent's first date. It took place in February of 1966, at a restaurant I imagine, somewhere in Soho, a little Italian bistro. (I am making this part up wikipedia doesn't cover the night this fabulous tradition came to be so I am fabricating little peices for you so in some way you can see it the way I do) For some odd reason I imagine them eating yellow jello as a dessert, I'm not quite sure why I feel this way, but its just how I see the picture giong down. Anyways, back to the heart of the matter. Despite the fact that it happened in February the holiday is now celebrated on the 23 of December.
It originally aired on December 18, 1997 in a lively episode that realy brought to life the entire tradtion. Some of the activities or traditions as they might be held consist of the airing of grievences, where everyone sits around and tells their loved ones how much they have disappointed them in the past year. I find it odd that this would be the kind of activity or maybe even sport they would want to take part in in order to commorate their first date, but maybe that how they do it. The second tradition of the bizzare holiday that is Festivus is after the Festivus Feast they take part in "feats of strength" where one strong man decided to wrestle the head of the household to the ground. Only until the head of the household is tackled to the ground is the holiday over. There is also heavy involvement of an aluminum pole according to my father, but wiki doesn't make mention of any of this gargin.
Overall I am pleased with how my weekend was celebrated. It was the perfect ending to a shitty week. The only thing is, is that now that I find myself sitting on my bed at 5:40 on a Sunday night completely exhausted from this weekend's activities I'm not sure how I will ever be able to motivate myself to do what needs to be done for what it sure to be an equally shitty week ahead of me.
